About Me
Started running in 1998 in my mid thirties after losing a fair bit of weight (and after spending the early part of my life thinking I was one of those people who "just couldn't run"). Worked my way up to a regular 5K on the treadmill 3 or 4 times a week at a reasonable speed, but didn't realise there were a whole load of races out there that people like me could enter - the only one I was aware of was the London marathon :-) Got bored of doing the same old thing and not improving, so gradually petered out over about 3 years or so. Got old and fat, thought I'd better do something about it, did the 2004 Moonwalk then found a run/walk programme and started back running again. Trained quite hard and lost a bit of weight then ran my first 5K race in a time which appalled me (I went out far too fast then blew up of course), got discouraged then more or less gave up again for another year. Trained for and ran the Nike 10K in 2005, but still very slow. In 2006 I entered some more races, lost a bit more weight and got a bit faster which was giving me more motivation, then injured my hamstring which took over a year to fully recover. 3 years later I am still plodding on and struggling with my weight/speed/injuries! One day I'll get there........
