About Me | |
---|---|
I started running in July 2004 to train for my first ever race, the Bristol Half Marathon. Since then I have run for 2 running clubs, I changed clubs with the hope of making some big improvements over the next few years. After trying my hands at virtually every distance from 800m up to half marathon over the course of about 3 years, I've discovered I quite like the shorter stuff.
At the start of 2008, I decided to switch to 800m/1500m and changed my training to target those distances. In my first track season, I managed to get my 800m PB down from 2:16 to 2:09 and 1500m PB from 4:51 to 4:29. I make YouTube videos about running, you can view my channel at youtube.com/craigbridges Show More...

A pyramid session of 1, 2, 3, 2, 1 minutes with the same time recovery between reps. This was my first structured run since the fartlek in March that took my hamstring over the edge. It was still a little grumpy but not too bad today, I keep the efforts reasonably fast and actually felt OK by the end. I even did some dynamic warm up drills and 2 strides.

Recording a virtual walk (and taking photos) around Berkley Wood after recording the virtual run. It had warmed up a lot by then.

Recording a virtual run around Berkley and Black Dog woods in Chapmanslade on a beautiful, misty but sunny morning. My hamstring was grumpy but held out, the main thing was I just felt very tired and heavy. It started really cold (about 3 degrees) but ended up a nice temperature, around 14 degrees by the time I left.

Recording a virtual run from Whatley Quarry (viewing point) to Mells. Hamstring wasn't too bad today (relatively) but it was quite hot and the ground was a bit challenging, some of the muddy sections had dried but were uneven.

Filming the extra loop for the Whatley to Mells virtual run around the Vallis woodland area, starting at the top of a farm field and heading down into the woods. I nearly didn't do this as I was tired and my calf's were sore from the Nunney loop I did an hour earlier.

Recording a virtual run loop starting at Nunney Castle and finishing there, heading through the woods by Chantry on the way and (cleverly) joining up with yesterdays route so I can merge the two together and make a much longer (90 minutes plus) video). My calf's were very sore after yesterday and I wasn't sure if they'd cope, but luckily they did, so another one in the bank. I think it was even warmer than yesterday, but I got to explore some new trails (although the first part along the river after Nunney was virtual un-runnable) and saw a Mara along the trail next to the quarry.

Running a practise loop around Beacon Wood and then doing a bit of core (on some moss) after.

Walking around Beacon Wood, exploring, filming a virtual walk and taking photos. Annoyingly a lot of mist/cloud came along and covered the sun about half way through the walk, making it quite dark.

Recording two extra loops (in both directions) around the wild garlic woodland near Chantry for the Mells and Nunney virtual runs. I had planned to record the Heavens Gate to Shearwater loop but my calf's were still too sore.

Recording the first part of the Beacon Wood virtual run. Frustratingly a) the sun was just about to go behind a blanket of cloud as I got there (it was kind of sunny for the first few minutes then it went dark) and b) the Bluebells had started dying, so they were not very impressive.

I drove to Cheddar Gorge for an attempt at recording the virtual run, but it was basically cast over and too dark, I recorded the first bit from Black Rock but then gave up and left it for another day. Instead I drove down the gorge and took photos. I was glad I abandoned the run because boy racers were already going up and down the road, which would have a) ruined the video and b) been very dangerous for me. I drove to Stockhill Wood after, quickly took a photo of the nice view with the sun setting over Priddy Pools and then warmed up, a few basic drills and 10 x 1 minute fast, 1 minute jog, then 12 minute slow cool down. I actually felt quite speedy and reasonably fit, my hamstring did complain but it was only really during the cool down that I felt it plus my calf's. I had the whole wood to myself, I didn't see a single person while running, except for one car in the car park.

I got up at 5am with the plan to record a virtual run from Heavens Gate, but it turned out to be a disaster. It was a lot darker than I expected at nearly 7am and small clouds kept covering the sun, then when I finally started a huge blanked of grey cloud came over and covered the sun by the time I got back to the carpark, so I stopped and decided to come back another day. I thought since I was there I might as well complete the run - there were a lot of people fishing around the lake, I hadn't expected that at 7.30am. I stopped a few times in the other woodland, it was very muddy and I was feeling tired. By the time I finished the sun came out again, so I quickly grabbed my camera and re-recorded the last bit of the first loop I did earlier. Then did about 800m of jogging taking photos for a thumbnail, while the sun went back inside. After this I had to rush home, take Eunice/Tyler to Radstock, do shopping and then later that day spent about 4 hours in the fayre at Midsomer Norton rugby club - my calfs were very sore and tender by that point. My hamstring wasn't brilliant while running and I just generally felt heavy and tired, I'm guessing largely because of the interval session I did 2 days earlier.

Went back to Beacon Wood because it was a beautiful sunny day to re-record the loop around the woods for the first part of a virtual run. I finished near the start of the bridle way that heads down to Shepton Mallet, this will allow me to park there when I record the next section of the virtual run. After recording the run I jogged/walked back to the car, filming b-roll on the way, then grabbed my camera and jogged/walked around taking photos. My calf's (especially the left) were still very sore from yesterday, but luckily the soft ground and short distance helped a lot.

Walking/jogging around Stockhill Wood to take photos for the thumbnail after my run (specifically bluebell photos).

Recording a spring virtual run around Stockhill Wood (the final missing season, I already had summer, autumn and winter). I made the loop different to other loops, although some sections were the same, which will help when creating the 'time machine' version. I had planned to only stop once to change the battery, but I ended up stopping 3 times: 1st because I slipped on some mud, 2nd to change battery and 3rd because I twisted my ankle near the end. My hamstring was OK until roughly the last 3 miles and my calf's were still sore. It was a lovely sunny morning and the sky looked nice, with wispy clouds scattered around.

Didn't have time (or motivation) to do circuits so did my mini core session instead (plank, crunches/leg raises, back extensions and then 4 sets of 25 press-ups/sit-ups/dips).
