STATUS After 2020 - 2022 strange couple of years, missing family and friends but no one was seriously ill, and glad pandemic is mostly over. Calf and hip injury mostly better, so onwards an upwards! Hoping for a bright future and 2023 for everyone. :-) G

Started running 07 after a nasty mountain bike accident end of 06 (a week in hospital and a spot of plastic surgery) put me off mountain biking. (See fetcheveryone.com/gallery-showphoto.php?id19442 for gruesome detail!) Decided running on 2 feet couldn't be as dangerous! Edinburgh Marathon 08 was the goal. Joined a club, did some training, got injured, got physio'd and fixed. Did it in 3:42. Pleased with the time. Loved the experience. But most of all I love the feeling of running, the camaraderie of the club and the lovely, lovely land of fetch. You are all wonderful! heart Update: Fetch Festive Calendar wanted an update. Errr, I'm not a parsnip. There you go.

What's the biggest challenge that awaits you? I've been running for 15 years, so I've done the main challenges that I had: sub 3 marathon; West Highland Way, which is the premier ultra up here in Scotland. I'm hoping to keep running until I'm 100. The challenge is avoiding injury, innit?! :-) |

Holiday run! Had a lovely walk with 90 yr old Tante H and with mum in wheelchair, and sis and 5 yr old niece. About 2.5 hours. When back after that, wanted to get some time by myself, so decided to go for a run. When as slowly as possible. Enforced walk breaks checking where I was going, or stopping taking photos. Whole 4 days in Hamburg Norderstedt the weather was lovely. So decided to go to the park we had walked in, but continue past the outdoor swimming pool, and on to the Stadtpark (town park). Amazing place - water area, woods area, green area, with facilities like outdoor ping pong tables, the lake had wakeboarding, woods and wild areas, everything. All with safe cycle paths for kids on pavements in every direction. Just so well set up. I saw kids as young as maybe 7 or 8 cycling alone or with friends to their sports club or whatever. Anyway, calves and achilles tender and sore after, which is the the way of things! G

Paddleboard post run. Such a lovely day. Car said 22C not sure if that was in the sun, maybe 19 or 20C more realistic. Wind was up by now, so a bit of a harder paddle than I wanted, was going easy on way out, but used the double paddle and sat coming bac. Kept it short after the wee run attempt. Also, S had me helping with fence posts into garden / fields starting 07.30 in the morning (before it got hot - but we were still going at 10.30 so was hot!) Meedies loch was so busy that they were using overflow car park. It was 0.5km and a near 10 min walk with the paddleboard rucksack to start and finish. Fun thing was that I put the rucksack and pump on front of board so that proved that one could take all the kit and theoretically carry the board to another location. Oh and first "fall" in! The skeg caught the bottom in the shallows as I was going down wind at reasonable speed and it stopped dead. I landed in water ahead of the board but on my feet only up to my knees in water. Not a fall. A controlled crash!! G

Such a lovely day, really wanted to be out in nature, and running is my activity, isn't it? 2 days since my work run, still a bit stiff calves, but surely a short, slow run would be OK? Nope! Tight, achilles tender, felt slow and lethargic (which I don't mind, just lack of cardio vascular and muscular fitness) but then after, very tight and tender achilles and calves. Oh well. Even missus has said must be time to see a physio! Lovely paddleboard later. G

Yes, two boards! Lovely to get together with _andy. Impromptu early Sunday morning message to let him know I was going (as last time he had asked I couldn't come because I was ill with a cold before my travel to Germany). And he was available indeed! Serendipity as he was dropping his son off for sailing instructing at 09.30. So two boards in the car. Lots of people even though much cooler and overcast, 13C? Great to see both days so many kids, families, outdoors, active and as Andy said, off their phones! Pumped up quickly (oops, sorry, told Andy wrong inflation limit 1.0bar and he was going to 1.5 bar. Good workout, well done!) I took the smaller, Decathlon board. Andy had only tried SUP once before. He got hang of it in about 5 mins, getting his balance and standing up. His kayak and canoe extensive paddle experience helped, I'm sure, as he was paddling confidently within minutes. Off we went, just the usual, up the loch and back. Bit slower than usual as we were chatting. Lovely morning, great to catch up. G

Felt a bit better while doing it, less calf ache and achilles tenderness, but ... sore again next day. Had done foam roller in the morning, some warm ups during the day (hopping, dynamic stretching before start etc.) Trying everything I can think of! Though possibly not enough of anything. Lovely day, bit cooler but sunny, with showers. Love the green at this time of year. G
