At least 60 minutes easy. Ended up with a short 90. I came out of Bushy Park further east than I'd intended (that was where I had my one pause to check navigation) and doodled around a bit to make up the distance.

60 minutes at minimum acceptable (for GFA) marathon pace 10 days out from a marathon. And with eL Bee!, who chose the route back from Kingston Bridge. Nice morning, still a bit chilly.
If the heart rate is reliable, and there's no reason why it shouldn't be because I was wearing my chest strap, that's quite encouraging. It did feel hard for the first mile, but I was able to converse (we had lots to say about Carmen!) and settled into the pace. 177 Base. 24th Apr 2024, 12:26pm

A more urban route choice today, with a couple of navigational errors but I was never actually lost.

60 lengths of hotel pool. Staff member told me that the length was "at least 15 to 18 metres". I set my Garmin to 18m and used the longest side (the other side loses some length to a whirlpool) but the stroke count and total time suggests 16m so I discarded the recording and made a manual entry instead.

Assessing the local mud. Started off by seeing if I could get to Newbury Showground on foot (nope) and then tried out some paths and roads I hadn't included in my run this morning. Just one navigation stop, at 3 miles to check where the big footpath I could see on the ground ended up. Google Maps didn't show it at all but the Fetch map was helpful.

This run is brought to you by patchily successful use of Google Maps. Ran out of pavement at 1.5 miles, couldn't find the road out of the golf course on to the B4494 (on the Fetch map there isn't one). About the right distance in the end. Innards grumbling about something I fed them yesterday, I suspect the edamame in the Tesco salad bowl. Cold and breezy.

I'm home and the weather came back with me (it's been dry most of the time we've been away). A long 60 minutes, big triangle as minimum, but not *too* long because although I haven't tapered I'm having a relatively easy week before the marathon. Cold, rain throughout, wind got stronger during the run.

My legs felt fine and it's a nice day (!) so I thought I'd do tomorrow's planned run - a short 60 minutes easy - today. Pottered along with my heart rate in the 130s for 2.5 miles, then it went up when I started going uphill and showed no interest in dropping much below 150 even coming back downhill through the town. By then it was warm in the sun and I was cooking in my long sleeved top, gilet and capris. I thought of Bowman and his deliberate hot treadmill runs.

Transferred the viable sunflower seedlings (12) into individual pots, planted the sedum, the tiny sambucus nigra and the bag of dirt that's allegedly an astilbe in the ground, transferred the sickly looking red rose to a bigger pot, did some weeding and watering.
The real work starts when we come back; at the moment the containers of tulips and daffodils are still going strong.

We've brought Princess Pink all this way, it would be a shame not to let her stretch her wheels.
When I asked eL Bee! at just past 10 miles if it was net downhill from there and he wasn't sure I should have suspected that there was a half-killing to come. Predictably, I have some soreness from yesterday's gardening and light weights session. Adductors, mainly.
Good wind direction for a point to point to Workington, but I didn't think it was justified for the distance I planned to do today. Planted the osteospermums in the ground in groups of 3 and watered them in.
Watered all the summer-planted containers. Cleared out the containers that had the orange tulips in them and replanted them with dwarf sunflower "Teddy Bear". There are 12 in each container, so if they all come up I'll need to thin them out. Two more lots of dwarf sunflower seeds to go in when I've cleared out more pots of tulips and daffodils. That's OK, I love sunflowers. Whanged the four Ismene festalis (WTF?) bulbs I bought in B&M into the trough that the crocuses came out of, with old compost plus some FB&B. Dug out some weeds in the swamp border. I don't think the two astilbes I planted there late last year have survived, and the gypsophila I moved from containers to the raised bed at the front also appear to have turned their toes up. Lifted the sedum which had grown back again from a bit of root and put it in a pot for now. The wee roses I got from Lidl in the autumn are looking very healthy. The one I got from the bargain counter at Dobbies, not so much. Add a comment
Peak squatty DOMS! Other aches and pains from unaccustomed activities (upper body/lower back) settled with a bit of moving around. Opted for a short unforced run (actual Z2, as it turns out!) rather than wimping out and going for a walk. Though I might do that as well.

I have a plan for cracking my phobia of long training runs. Since eL Bee! was going to Whinlatter today I hitched a lift to the Bridekirk junction on the A595, which I've done once before, and ran home, the only route requirement being that it should take at least two hours. The wind is still from the north east and when I got to the Dearham junction (3.5 miles) and again at Crosby Villa (5 miles) I considered running towards Workington and getting the bus home. But it wasn't a strong enough wind to justify an investment of £2 and half an hour sitting on the bus.
Still got some DOMS in my adductors and the last hour was a slog. I told myself I could walk as soon as I'd run for two hours, but by that point I was at the top of the descent back into town and it was easier just to run. Cold metal in the garage. First time since 16/12/23. Past Me's skimpy notekeeping, which seemed like a good idea at the time, is annoying Current Me, so I'll put the detail in here even though it's all very puny.
Curls: 10/10/10 @ 13.25kg. 3 x 30 crunches in table top between sets. Bench (wide): 10/10/10 @ 20kg. 3 x (2x12) clamshells between sets. Bent over rows: 12/12/12 @ 15.75kg. 3 x (4x10) calf raises between sets. 3 x (2x20) side bends with 9(ish)kg dumbbell. Big step up from 5kg. 3 x 12 triceps extensions with 5kg between sets. A very gentle jog to squish my Fetchpoint bugs. Not a recovery run because (1) it was less than four hours after parkrun, (2) it was too long, and (3) I let my heart rate do whatever it wanted going back up Station Road rather than walking. Very warm now, though (you won't hear this from me very often) the breeze was nice.
